Corinth, originally known as Cross City, was established in 1854 where the Memphis/ Charleston and Mobile/Ohio railroads would later cross in 1858.
One of the early major battles of the Civil War was fought in April 1862 at Shiloh in nearby Tennessee. There were also significant battles in and around Corinth throughout 1862 over control of this major Mississippi Valley transportation hub.

The railroads, which brought prosperity and
military occupation during the Civil War, eventually brought it to the forefront as a manufacturing center.
The city’s growth brought many cultural influences. The town’s many architectural styles attest to this. Corinth is a great place to live, work and play, no matter what your age or situation in life.

Corinth enjoys a climate that allows for
year-round activities for people of all ages. Its average annual temperature is 64 degrees. The average winter temperature is 40 degrees with the typically coldest month being January. In summer temperatures average about 81 degrees with August usually being the hottest month.
Corinth’s Crossroads Arena seats 10,000 people and boasts one of the state’s biggest arena floors. Corinth also offers a variety of entertainment, shopping and dining opportunities. Over 50 industries
are also located in Corinth.
The Corinth School System has been awarded a Level V accreditation rating (the highest in the state), while the Alcorn County School System received the second highest state rating.
Health care concerns are met by the Magnolia Regional Health Center, which serves Corinth and Alcorn County with 165 beds. It has recently opened a Community Services Complex and is a partner in the Corinth Surgery Center.
The city has also been awarded numerous state certifications including the Mississippi Main Street Community, Keep Mississippi Beautiful Community and the Certified Hometown Retirement Community.
Corinth is only a 20-minute drive from 43,000-acre Pickwick Lake, which is surrounded by several state parks. There are 10,000+ acres of parkland within a 35-mile radius of Corinth.
The Corinth Sportsplex offers an Olympic-size indoor swimming pool, weight rooms, Nautilus equipment, basketball courts, softball and soccer fields.
There are also 10 golf courses within a half-hour drive. A 20-mile hiking and biking trail traverses the area.
